Grew up with guns in the house. The only times they weren't locked up was when they were being cleaned or we were going somewhere to shoot them. I don't understand how you can have kids in the house and just leave a gun sitting out.

Exactly, isn't there some sort of checklist when you kid starts crawling/walking?

Safety gates

Child locks on the cabinets/drawers/fridge

Add bumpers to sharp corners of furniture.

Those damn doorknob things.

Lock up/move all fragile items to locations that can't be reached.

Lock up/move all messy items to locations that can't be reached.

Lock up/move all deadly items to locations that can't be reached.

We don't have any kids, so I might have missed something.
